Kenneth Freeman Paintings To Be Offered at Texas Art Sale

For the first time in three years, original masterpieces from the private collection of the late Kenneth M. Freeman will be offered for sale Jan. 28/29, 2011 at the 7th Annual Western Artists of America Show and Sale at the Pearce Museum in Corsicana, Texas.

The masterpieces are from the private Legacy collection and represent some of Freeman's finest artwork. Freeman's work has toured the country in two traveling museum exhibitions plus additional selections in other museum shows.

Hubbell Trading Post Gears Up for Native American Art Auction

The Friends of Hubbell Trading Post NHS, in partnership with the National Park Service, will present its next Native American Art Auction Sept. 18 at the Hubbell Trading Post in Ganado, Ariz.

September's auction will include contemporary and antique Navajo textiles, Pueblo Katsina dolls, pottery, paintings, carvings and baskets from many tribes. Preview for the auction is from 9 to 11 a.m., with the auction beginning at noon. Auction artwork will be available in a range of prices, from just $20 to more than $4,000.

Quarter Horse Painting by Wayne Baize Focus of ‘America’s Horse in Art’ Show

America's Horse in Art focus returns to the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum Aug. 14, 2010 and a painting by renowned Western artist Wayne Baize will be the signature piece for the third annual art show.

The public is invited to the "America's Horse in Art: The Horse That Settled the West" opening, which will take place on that Saturday. Many of the talented artists will be at the opening and available to discuss the inspiration for their art work.

Autry National Center Readies 9th annual Navajo Rug Auction June 19

The Autry National Center's Navajo Rug Auction will hold its ninth annual display and sale in Los Angeles on June 19, 2010 and feature a silent auction and weaving demonstrations.

Third-generation trader Jackson Clark II, owner of the respected Toh-Atin Gallery in Durango, Colorado, will showcase more than 100 contemporary and antique weavings, ranging in value from $100 to $10,000. Plus, the largest weaving ever to win the Best of Show Award will be on display.

2010 Prix de West Opening Weekend Features Top Artists, Speakers and Demonstrations

One of the West's most celebrated art exhibitions and auction, the 37th annual Prix de West Invitational Art Exhibition and Sale, gets underway June 11-13 at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.

Featuring more than 110 artists, the 2010 exhibit will include more than 300 Western paintings and sculpture by the finest contemporary Western artists in the nation. Art seminars, receptions and an awards banquet round out the exhibition's opening events. Reservations are required for most opening weekend activities.

‘Custer’s Last Stand’ Art Exhibit Now on Display at Whitney Gallery in Cody, Wyoming

"Brush, Palette, and Custer's Last Stand," featuring artists who depicted the Battle of the Little Bighorn, is now on display at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center's Whitney Gallery of Western Art in Cody, Wyoming.

Assembled from the Center's collection, several paintings, prints, and sketches will be on display for the next two years, offering a glimpse into those fateful days in the summer of 1876.

‘How Women Made the West’ Detailed in New Exhibit at the Autry National Center in Los Angeles

The taming of the West, as portrayed in many Hollywood cowboy movies, was the result of strong-willed women-wives and mothers-demanding the town's excesses be tempered by building a law-abiding community complete with churches and schools.

John Ford's 1939 classic Western, Stagecoach, even has a scene early in the movie where Dallas, a woman of questionable character (played by actress Claire Trevor), is escorted to the stagecoach by a ladies action committee, and run out of town.

One of the West's most important paintings, Thomas Moran's Mountain of the Holy Cross, has returned to the Autry National Center in Los Angeles where after a year of travels with two separate exhibitions it again serves as the centerpiece for the museum's art collection.

"It absolutely embodies cultural thinking about the West at the time of its creation: that the West was monumental and grand, the natural destination of the American people as the heirs of the New World," said Amy Scott, the Marilyn B. and Calvin B. Gross Curator of Visual Arts at the Autry National Center.

Western Art Sale Raises $3.8 Million for Autry National Center in Los Angeles

One of the nation's most important Western art shows, the Masters of the American West Fine Art Exhibition and Sale at the Autry National Center in Los Angeles, brought in more than $3 million for the museum on opening night Feb. 6, 2010.

Overall fundraising totaled $3.8 million for the 13th annual Western art event. The art-only gross sales were just over $3 million. Artwork continues to be available for sale through the run of the exhibition, which ends March 7, 2010.

Grand Canyon Artist-in-Residence Programs Announce Artists for 2009 – 2010 Season

Grand Canyon National Park's North and South Rim Artist-in-Residence programs have announced the artists selected for the October 2009 - September 2010 season, and added that the program has expanded beyond just traditional landscape photography and painting.
