The masterpieces are from the private Legacy collection and represent some of Freeman's finest artwork. Freeman's work has toured the country in two traveling museum exhibitions plus additional selections in other museum shows.

September's auction will include contemporary and antique Navajo textiles, Pueblo Katsina dolls, pottery, paintings, carvings and baskets from many tribes. Preview for the auction is from 9 to 11 a.m., with the auction beginning at noon. Auction artwork will be available in a range of prices, from just $20 to more than $4,000.

John Ford's 1939 classic Western, Stagecoach, even has a scene early in the movie where Dallas, a woman of questionable character (played by actress Claire Trevor), is escorted to the stagecoach by a ladies action committee, and run out of town.

"It absolutely embodies cultural thinking about the West at the time of its creation: that the West was monumental and grand, the natural destination of the American people as the heirs of the New World," said Amy Scott, the Marilyn B. and Calvin B. Overall fundraising totaled $3.8 million for the 13th annual Western art event. The art-only gross sales were just over $3 million. Artwork continues to be available for sale through the run of the exhibition, which ends March 7, 2010.
