A new book that tells the story of Fort Vancouver and the Pacific Northwest through artifacts will be celebrated at a unique, lantern-lit book launch inside Fort Vancouver National Historic Site on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.

Entitled "Exploring Fort Vancouver," the book was edited by Douglas Wilson and Theresa Langford of the National Park Service. The curator will also exhibit a select number of the artifacts from the museum collection that are featured in the book.

The event is free. After visitors park in the Fort Vancouver parking lot, they will follow a lantern-lit path through the fort's garden, through the stockade gate and into the fur warehouse.

The book's publication and distribution to libraries and schools was made possible by the Clark County Historical Promotion Grant program. "Exploring Fort Vancouver" is available at the Fort Vancouver Bookstore inside the Visitor Center, 1501 E. Evergreen Blvd., Vancouver. It retails for $24.95.
