Sponsored by the charitable Danish Days Foundation, Solvang, the village known as the "Danish Capital of America" celebrates its 100th anniversary throughout 2011 and its 75th annual Danish Days from Friday, Sept. 16 through Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011. Just a short drive north of Santa Barbara, California, the event honors the establishment of Solvang by Danish-Americans in 1911 and continues to preserve Solvang's authentic Danish heritage.

Admission is free and thousands of residents and visitors enjoy the celebration each year. Danish and U.S. flags line the streets, residents and visitors don colorful costumes, and there is folk dancing and entertainment throughout the weekend. As part of the Centennial Celebration, enjoy concerts by the Aalborg Police Band of Denmark and PCPA Theaterfest performances of "My Fairytale," an enchanting musical about Hans Christian Andersen, Denmark's renowned storyteller.
