Delta Launches Los Angeles to San Francisco Shuttle; Expands Additional Services

Just it time to help travelers get back into the swing of things, Delta Airlines said it will begin hourly, nonstop Delta Shuttle service between Los Angeles International (LAX) and San Francisco International (SFO) airports.

Starting on Sept. 3, 2013, Delta will introduce 14 daily flights and a product tailored to business travelers while adding additional service to markets in the West. The new hourly LAX-SFO shuttle service will also offer shorter check-in windows, and unique snack offerings by LYFE Kitchen.

delta4Flights will depart at the top of the hour beginning at 7 a.m. Monday through Friday and will be operated by Delta Connection partner,
Compass Airlines using Embraer E-175 aircraft which accommodate 76 passengers in 12 first class, 12 economy comfort and 52 economy seats.

"Our new Delta Shuttle on the West Coast is designed to make doing business between Los Angeles and San Francisco easier. And with a product that's tailored to California, we're also making business travel more enjoyable and productive," said Tim Mapes, senior vice president for marketing.

"With our growth in Los Angeles, our ongoing investments to transform Terminal 5 and the introduction of more convenient schedules, we're listening carefully to customers and doing everything possible to give them the experience they want from Delta," he added.

Customers flying the Delta Shuttle between Los Angeles and San Francisco will enjoy:

  • Check-in as close as 30 minutes prior to departure
  • Dedicated check-in counters exclusively for Shuttle customers
  • Gates located near security
    Assigned seating
  • Two classes of service with complimentary upgrades for SkyMiles Medallion members when available.
  • Complimentary onboard snacks provided by LYFE Kitchen, a California-based lifestyle food brand
  • Complimentary beverages in-flight
  • Cocktails available for purchase in Economy
  • Access to in-flight Wi-Fi on all Shuttle flights
Delta SkyMiles members will earn a minimum of 500 miles for all Shuttle flights.

Additional Expanded Service from LAX

The move is part of Delta's plan to increase service from Los Angeles to other markets in the West.

On July 25, 2013 Delta announced the expanded LAX service would include (with effective dates):

  • Pacific Northwest service with four new daily flights to Portland, Ore.*, as well as two additional daily flights to Seattle* (Sept. 3)
  • Expanded Bay Area service with three additional daily flights to San Francisco*, two additional daily flights to Oakland, Calif.*, and one additional daily flight to San Jose, Calif.*, (Sept. 3)
  • One additional daily flight to New Orleans (Sept. 3)
  • One additional daily flight to Kansas City, Mo.* (Sept. 3)
  • Additional flights to both Indianapolis and Columbus, Ohio resulting in daily service (Sept. 3)
  • Retimed daily service to Tampa, Fla., and Raleigh, N.C. (Sept. 3)
  • New limited daily service to Missoula, Mont.*, and Kalispell, Mont.* (Dec. 21 - Jan. 5)
  • New limited daily (Dec. 21 - Jan. 5) and Saturday only (Jan. 11 - March 29) service to Jackson Hole, Wyo.*
  • Seasonal limited daily (Dec. 21 - Jan. 5) and Saturday only (Jan. 11 - March 29) service to Bozeman, Mont.* (Dec. 21 - March 29)
(*Note: A portion of travel for some itineraries may be on the Delta Connection carriers Compass Airlines and SkyWest.)

"Coupled with our expanding airline partnerships and improved airport customer experience, we offer a superior product in one of the industry's most competitive markets."

Delta also is remodeling Terminal 5 at LAX in conjunction with its partnership with the City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles World Airports. The current project will double the size of the ticketing lobby and screening checkpoints, open an exclusive, separate Sky Priority lobby and checkpoint, and include renovations to the Delta Sky Club and new baggage carousels.
