Entitled  the exhibit opens Aug. 4, 2013 at the monument's Education Center and will be on display until Sept. 27, 2013. There is no fee to enter the monument and no charge to view the exhibit. lincoln_exhibitUsing the U. S. Constitution as the cohesive thread, "Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War" offers a fresh and innovative perspective on Lincoln that focuses on his struggle to meet the constitutional challenges of the Civil War.

"Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War," the National Constitution Center's first originally produced feature exhibition, shows how President Abraham Lincoln's leadership and constitutional vision steered the nation through its most turbulent years and into a future that forever changed America.

The exhibition is organized into six main exhibit areas: "Secession Winter," "Oath of Office," "Crisis of Secession," "Crisis of Slavery," "Crisis of Civil Liberties," and "Lincoln's Legacy: The Gettysburg Address in His Time and Ours."

Organized thematically, the exhibition explores how Lincoln used the Constitution to confront three intertwined crises of the war-the secession of Southern states, slavery, and wartime civil liberties. Visitors will leave the exhibition with a more complete understanding of Abraham Lincoln as President and the Civil War as the nation's gravest constitutional crisis.

The traveling exhibition is made possible by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities: great ideas brought to life.

Homestead National Monument of America is a unit of the National Park Service located four miles west of Beatrice, Nebraska. Hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
