Everyone likes a pat on the back, and I'm very proud to tell you that one of La Frontera Publishing's authors recently received a much-deserved pat from her peers.

Lori Van Pelt was named as a finalist in the Western Writers of America's Spur Awards category for Best Western Short Fiction. The honor was announced at the WWA's annual convention in Las Vegas, Nev. held June 24-29. Her story, "The Day Delgado Rode In" appeared in our anthology, Outlaws and Lawmen, published in 2012.

John Mort.

Lori is a wonderful writer. She won the Western Writers of America Spur Award for Best Short Fiction in 2006 for the title story in her first collection, Pecker's Revenge and Other Stories from the Frontier's Edge (University of New Mexico Press). Her short stories have been published in numerous anthologies as well as in online literary magazines, and her short nonfiction pieces have appeared in a variety of publications.

Her biography Amelia Earhart: The Sky's No Limit (American Heroes series, Forge) was named to the New York Public Library's "Best Books for the Teen Age" list. She received a 2010 Wyoming Arts Council Creative Writing Fellowship in Poetry, and she is also the author of two historical nonfiction books about Wyoming's colorful characters, published by High Plains Press. Lori is currently the assistant editor of WyoHistory.org, a project of the Wyoming State Historical Society.

I celebrate Lori's selection as a finalist in one of the toughest competitions around for Western writers. You can learn more about Lori by visiting her Website at

Lori's short story, "The Day Delgado Rode In" accompanies the works from ten other Western authors, along with an introduction from Johnny D. Boggs. Our new anthology series is designed to be a platform to showcase the works of America's newest Western writers.

The second collection in the series, "Dead or Alive," is now available through Amazon. The eBook version will be available later this summer.
