Virgin America, the airline that is reinventing domestic travel, has launched its new nonstop seasonal flights to Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) from San Francisco International Airport (SFO), offering six nonstop roundtrip flights a week between SFO and ANC from June 6, 2013, through Sept. 9, 2013.

Virgin America's SFO to ANC service provides fresh competition in the market that will help stimulate travel demand, job growth and airline fare competition, the company said.

"Alaska's incredible natural beauty has long made it one of the nation and world's most unique travel destinations - including significant traveler demand from our home base here in San Francisco," said Virgin America President and CEO David Cush. "Flights to this region are in high demand and we are pleased to bring new competition and more choices into the market."

Known for outstanding service, beautifully designed cabins and unrivalled in-flight entertainment, Virgin America has swept the travel awards since its 2007 launch. Virgin America's all new fleet is the most fuel and carbon efficient in the domestic skies - and every aircraft offers three classes of service and inventive amenities like fleetwide WiFi, power outlets and personal touch-screen entertainment at every seat - with live TV, movies, music, seat-to-seat chat, videogames, Google Maps, food ordering and more on demand.

As the only airline headquartered in the Bay Area and the first and only airline to offer WiFi on every flight, Virgin America has attracted a loyal following of flyers since its launch in 2007. As the airline continues to expand its network, it has listened to its most frequent flyers and helped bring seasonal flights to one of the most sought after vacation destinations in the world. With Anchorage's picturesque mountains, world-class sport fishing, scenic views, and over 300 miles of hiking and biking trails, it's a natural fit for summer travelers looking for a breathtaking getaway.

"I'm pleased to see that Virgin America is adding seasonal nonstop flights to and from San Francisco, and we welcome them as the newest airline to Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport," said Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan. As Alaska's largest city, our unique location allows you to pack in a lot of adventure and I believe this seasonal route will be well-received by both San Francisco and Anchorage residents."

"We are delighted to welcome Virgin America to Anchorage," said Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport Manager John Parrott. "As Alaska's largest city, it is essential to both our local and state economies that we have ample options when it comes to flying. This additional connectivity will undoubtedly bring economic growth by stimulating both tourism and business travel."
