Buffalo Bill would have been 167 years old on Feb. 26, 2013, but William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody still has a very real presence in Cody, Wyoming, where the Buffalo Bill Historical Center will celebrate the Wild West showman's birthday with a free event Friday, Feb. 22.

celebration will begin at 3 p.m. with "Family Fun Friday" in the Center's museum galleries, including fun with finger puppets and other hands-on activities especially geared to families.

The crowd-pleasing Buffalo Bill Band will kick off the evening portion of the event at 5 p.m. with rousing music from the era of Buffalo Bill's Wild West. The band will perform till 7 p.m. and will be directed by Dr. Mike Masterson, a 2010 recipient of the Wyoming Governor's Arts Awards.

A highlight of the evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a little creative help from volunteers in the drama program at Cody High School.

The players will perform the first scene of Life on the Border, an 1877 stage play that featured Buffalo Bill and cohort Captain Jack Omohundro recounting tales of their western adventures. The loosely-scripted scene invites audience participation-and promises lively entertainment with a bit of melodrama and comedy mixed in.
