San Antonio’s Postponed Luminaria Celebration Reset for May 5

Postponed due to bad weather in early March, San Antonio will host its fifth annual Luminaria celebration on Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. in historic HemisFair Park.

Luminaria, Texas' largest single-day arts event, will feature original artworks created by more than 80 local and national artists against the backdrop of one of San Antonio's most revered historical and cultural landmarks.

luminaria_sanantonioWith the exception of a select number of artists who are unable to participate due to previously scheduled commitments, the majority of the original selected artists are all confirmed.

"Luminaria is San Antonio's signature art event because it showcases local artists in a way that involves the entire San Antonio community as well as regional, national and even international audiences," said San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro. "On this fifth anniversary, we are committed to helping provide an extraordinary experience that highlights the creative culture of our city."

For the first time, attendees will be able to experience Luminaria like never before with Luminaria Live, developed by title sponsor, Rackspace Hosting. Luminaria Live is an interactive guide to be used with mobile devices that has information on the event, the artists and more.

Luminaria is San Antonio's annual festival of art and artists.

The celebration a free event that showcases all art forms in an outdoor setting in downtown San Antonio. Luminaria spotlights the region's cultural assets for local citizens and visitors alike and is made possible through the generosity of artists, arts organizations, volunteers, and public and private donations.

Luminaria officially launched in 2008 and garnered attendance from over 310,000 last year. Luminaria is San Antonio's adaptation of "White Nights", originally conceived in Paris, France in 2002.

The goal is to bring contemporary art to the masses in public spaces, while inspiring dialogue and engaging the public to examine its significance and impact on public space. For more information, visit
