Just in time for the 2011 summer influx of tourists, San Francisco's historic California Street Cable Car Line is running again after a six-month pause to make street infrastructure upgrades.

One of three cable car lines in the City, the California Street line runs east to west and carries passengers from the Financial District, through the famous Chinatown, up over Nob Hill, stopping at Van Ness Avenue.

Work started in January and included replacing the aging electronic and mechanical components underneath the cable car trackway as well as important street improvements on California Street between Van Ness and Drumm streets.

Officially reopened on June 21, street improvements included new curb ramps to comply with Americans with Disability Act (ADA) requirements, repaired sidewalk curbs and replacing existing sewers at various locations along California Street.

"We know that there were inconveniences to you and your neighbors during construction," the Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) wrote to local residents, "but hope that you will enjoy the benefits of a transportation network that is in a state of good repair."

To help celebrate the reopening, one of San Francisco's other landmarks, the Stanford Court Renaissance San Francisco Hotel, is celebrating the completion of the California Street Line by offering the ultimate sip, savor and see experience to California Street Line riders.

As part of the sip, savor and see experience, riders who present their Cable Car ticket at Aurea, the on-site restaurant at the Stanford Court Hotel in Nob Hill, can enjoy a complimentary Summer Thyme cocktail, house-made potato chips served with two dips-one savory and one sweet-and a San Francisco City Navigator tailored to the California Line.

Ideal for both the visiting tourist and the native San Franciscan, this celebratory promotion toasts to the future of the iconic San Francisco cable cars.

This offer is valid throughout the month of July to celebrate the completion of the California Cable Car line and is restricted to one experience per cable car ticket.

Tax is additional. The offer cannot be combined with any other promotions, and other restrictions apply.

The California Cable Car Line runs directly outside the doors of the Renaissance Stanford Court, a boutique San Francisco Hotel.
