ARIA Resort & Casino Opens On Las Vegas Strip With Rooftop Fireworks

Under a canopy of fireworks illuminating the night sky, ARIA Resort & Casino, a 61-story, 4,000-room gaming resort, opened its doors Dec. 16, 2009 on the Las Vegas Strip and welcomed its first guests.

The tallest structure in CityCenter, ARIA Resort & Casino redefines the Las Vegas skyline and creates a strong sense of space, according to Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, designers of the resort and casino.

The 3.8 million-square-foot hotel-casino complex is comprised of two counterpoising, curvilinear towers joining to form an open center. Constructed of steel and glass, the towers transform as they reflect the changing sky and the lights of Las Vegas.

A grand opening invite-only gala capped the opening day's activities, giving VIP guests an opportunity to sample ARIA's hospitality, creative personalized attention and array of amenities.

Finally, at 11 p.m. fireworks filled the sky with brilliant bursts of color, reflected in ARIA's curved glass curtain wall, as Las Vegas visitors and locals gathered below eager to enter the resort when the doors opened shortly following the dramatic aerial salute.

Located at the heart of CityCenter, ARIA Resort is the centerpiece of an extraordinary urban resort destination. Its debut signifies the official grand opening of this city-within-a-city, following two weeks of celebrations for the reveals of Vdara Hotel & Spa, Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas and Crystals retail and entertainment district.

Featuring an unprecedented combination of striking architecture, sustainable design, high-end service and spectacular amenities, the stunning ARIA has dramatically altered the skyline of the world's most famous boulevard and will forever change the perceptions of the Las Vegas Strip.

"ARIA and CityCenter reflect a combination of innovation, energy and visionary design that we believe will reshape how the world views the destination resort experience and attract visitors from around the globe as a landmark of taste and style," said Jim Murren, Chairman and CEO of MGM Mirage, which developed CityCenter in partnership with Infinity World Development Corp.

Horizon Air Resumes Winter Service to Mammoth Mountain

Horizon Air's 2009/2010 winter service to California's Mammoth Mountain has resumed, carrying skiers and boarders from Los Angeles, Portland, San Jose, Reno and Seattle to a ski resort that is already reaping the rewards of an El Niño winter that as of Dec. 17 had a base of three to six feet and more on the way.

Travelers can enjoy two daily nonstop flights from Los Angeles as well as daily nonstop service from San Jose and Reno and direct (same-plane, one-stop) service from Seattle and Portland. Flights will continue through April 11, 2010.

"We have been eagerly anticipating the expanded number of Horizon Air flights to our area," said Rusty Gregory, CEO of Mammoth Mountain. "With El Niño expected to provide one of the best snow seasons ever, the timing couldn't be better."

Mammoth Mountain is just 15 minutes from the Mammoth Lakes Yosemite airport. During 2008's inaugural season of service, thousands of Southern Californians took advantage of Horizon's 70-minute flight from Los Angeles instead of enduring five hours or more of driving, the company said.

Horizon is offering special low fares for flights on select days between Mammoth and each city. Fares start at $49 each way from Reno, $69 from San Jose or Los Angeles, $144 from Portland, and $149 from Seattle.

The Mammoth winter season flight schedule runs from Dec. 17, 2009, through April 11, 2010, and is available for booking at
www.horizonair.com or by calling (800) 547-9308.

Well known for long seasons and plentiful snowfall, Mammoth Mountain is one of California's favorite mountain resorts and is consistently ranked among the top ski resorts in the country by SKI Magazine.

Other winter activities around Mammoth include cross-country skiing, ice skating, snowmobiling, dog sledding and dipping into the hot springs. Mammoth Mountain Ski Area owns and operates a variety of resort businesses, including recreation, hospitality, real estate development, food and beverage, and retail.
