Southwest Airlines expanding Denver service with several new flights and two additional gates, California’s Railtown 1897 State Historic Park again offering Santa train trips, and Walden Plantation on the Llano River in the Texas Hill Country, has opened.

Southwest Airlines Adding More Flights From Denver

Southwest Airlines said it is continuing its growth commitment to Denver, Colorado by adding 13 new daily flights and six new nonstop destinations in 2010 from the Mile High City.

Now on sale, Southwest will add six new flights to five new nonstop destinations beginning in March 2010. Southwest will add seven additional daily flights to existing destinations for travel beginning in May 2010, which will open for sale in December 2009.

"We have consistently invested flights and resources to support our growing Denver operation, and we'll continue to do so," said Gary Kelly, Southwest's chairman of the board, president, and CEO. "Denver has been a great success story for Southwest, and, as a result, we've been able to grow at a record pace."

Beginning March 14, 2010 the following flights will be added:

  • One new daily nonstop roundtrip between Denver and Hartford
  • One new daily nonstop roundtrip between Denver and Boise
  • One new daily nonstop roundtrip between Denver and Ontario
  • One new daily nonstop roundtrip between Denver and Detroit
  • One new daily nonstop roundtrip between Denver and Washington Dulles
  • One additional daily nonstop roundtrip between Denver and Oklahoma City (for a total of three daily)

Beginning May 2010 (open for sale in December 2009):

  • One additional daily nonstop roundtrip between Denver and Sacramento (for a total of three daily)
  • One additional daily nonstop roundtrip between Denver and Tulsa (for a total of three daily)
  • One additional daily nonstop roundtrip between Denver and New Orleans (for a total of two daily)
  • One additional daily nonstop roundtrip between Denver and Portland (for a total of three daily)
  • One additional daily nonstop roundtrip between Denver and Oakland (for a total of four daily)
  • One additional daily nonstop roundtrip between Denver and Baltimore/Washington (for a total of four daily)
  • One additional daily nonstop roundtrip between Denver and Seattle (for a total of three daily)
  • One new Saturday-only nonstop roundtrip between Denver and New York LaGuardia (weekday service offered on one-stop basis)

To support the airline's expanding operation, Southwest recently acquired two additional gates at DIA, growing from 10 to 12 preferentially leased gates on Concourse C.

Southwest Airlines began service to Denver on Jan. 3, 2006, with 13 daily nonstop departures to three destinations. The airline currently operates 112 daily nonstop flights from the Mile High City, making Denver the fastest growing city in the Company's history.

In September 2009, Southwest announced that the carrier will begin new nonstop service between Denver and Boston Logan; Denver and Spokane; and Denver and Reno/Tahoe in January 2010. With the previously announced service and the new flights being announced today, Southwest will operate 127 daily nonstop flights from Denver to 43 cities by May 2010.

Santa Returns for Holiday Trains at California's Railtown 1897 Park

Santa is returning for appearances on board Christmas holiday steam trains at California's Railtown 1897 State Historic Park, with a special visit on Santa's Starlight Express on Nov. 28, 2009.

Located in Jamestown, about 100 miles southeast of Sacramento, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park will be the setting for the new Santa's Starlight Express which will begin at 5:30 p.m. The special train, filled with the music and magic of Christmas, will get visitors in the holiday spirit as they ride along in the lighted train, caroling as they go.

Tickets are $19 for adults, $9 for youth, and free for children 5 and under traveling with an adult. (Advanced tickets are recommended for all riders, as space is limited. Reservations can be made by calling (209) 984-3953.

Steam-powered Santa's Express Trains continue this year during daylight hours, on Nov. 27, 28, and 29, and Dec. 19 and 20. Trains run each day at 11, 12, 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Santa will be on board to greet visitors, and will be accompanied by Railtown's Roving Fiddler, Dave Rainwater. Ticket prices are $13 for adults, $6 for youth, and free for children 5 and under. Tickets are available at the depot.

Operated by California State Parks with assistance from the nonprofit California State Railroad Museum Foundation, Railtown 1897 State Historic Park offers year-round tours plus train rides weekends April through October (selected dates only in November and December). Known as "The Movie Railroad," the park and its trains have been featured in hundreds of feature films, TV shows, and commercials.

Located in the heart of California's Gold Country, the park is at the corner of Fifth and Reservoir in Jamestown, and reached by highways 49/108. Walden Plantation On The Llano River B&B Opens

Walden Plantation on the Llano River, a new luxury bed and breakfast destination facility in the Texas Hill Country, has opened.

Situated on almost 17 acres and located nine miles west from the town of Llano, 36 miles from Fredericksburg, 70 miles from Austin and only a three hour drive from Dallas/Fort Worth, Walden Plantation on the Llano River will become the premier b&b in the state, developers said.
