California's 2009 Road Trips Guide Gets Visitors Exploring

California Road Trips 2009, the free annual guide produced by the California Travel and Tourism Commission (CTTC), is now available and the agency is hoping you'll want to use it to explore the Golden State.

California Road Trips 2009 provides detailed driving maps that take readers to some of the best insider spots in California. But readers will find a difference this year - an emphasis on getting out of the car to enjoy those unique locales.

Readers are encouraged to stretch their legs and wander Calico Ghost Town, a former silver-mining boomtown, where authenticity mixes with a little kitsch in the Deserts Region. In the Inland Empire Region, biking the scenic trails surrounding the pine-fringed Lake Arrowhead is a must-do in the warmer months.

In the San Diego County Region, travelers can snorkel, getting up close and personal with harmless leopard sharks in La Jolla, while in Santa Barbara, part of the Central Coast Region, they can walk the gardens at Old Mission Santa Barbara. The High Sierra Region encourages travelers to take a watery tour by renting a kayak to discover the tufa towers bordering Mono Lake.

Another new feature to the guide is the "3 Free & Easy" box located in each of the 12 regional California driving itineraries. For example, in the Central Valley Region, travelers are encouraged to check out the Fresno Art Museum - free admission every Sunday.

California Road Trips 2009 is available in the June edition of Sunset magazine. You can also get a copy by calling 1-877-TOP-DRIVES or download it for free via the CTTC Web site at

Bourbon Orleans Hotel Marks 45 Years with Anniversary Rate

The Bourbon Orleans Hotel has announced a special, limited-availability $45 per person anniversary rate in celebration of its own 45th year operating as one of New Orleans' premier French Quarter boutique hotels.

The property's origins began in 1817 as the Orleans Ballroom opened by entrepreneur John Davis, where for 20 years the city's residents enjoyed a vibrant social scene. By 1881, war had taken a toll on the city and its nightlife, and the ballroom was converted to a school and convent by the Sisters of the Holy Family for the next 83 years.

The convent both maintained and expanded the facility, and to this day the current proprietors are committed to preserving the history and character of the hotel for future generations.

The $45 per person anniversary rate, with two guests per room, may be reserved now through May 30 for stays through Sept. 30.* Availability is limited, and some conditions apply. For more information or to make a reservation, please visit the hotel's web site:
www.bourbonorleans.com and use promotion code Bourbon45.

The Bourbon Orleans Hotel is positioned near landmark French Quarter attractions and entertainment, just steps to St. Louis Cathedral, Jackson Square, upscale shopping on Royal Street, and all of the restaurants, galleries and nightlife in between.

The hotel features uniquely styled guestrooms and suites, a serene interior courtyard pool, Paillard's restaurant, Bourbon Oh! lobby lounge, and Napoleon's Itch after-hours lounge, which has become a destination for locals and visitors alike.
