Ouray Elks Lodge for Santa.
Each year on Christmas Eve legions of Santas deploy across snowy Ouray County, spreading magic and glee. The Santas come to each hotel room where children are staying and bring small gifts. There is no cost, just a little advance notice. It is a tradition that began on a Christmas Eve in the 1920s, when according to legend, Ouray Elks Lodge members came across a family's broken-down wagon. A note read, "Sure hope you can find us tonight, Santa." The Elks helped the family, not only to shelter, but to gifts, toys and treats as well. This is just one of the things that makes Christmas in Ouray so enchanting.
